Bio: Liangzhong (Shawn) Xiang is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the School of Electric and Computer Engineering at The University of Oklahoma. When he was a graduate student, he awarded the Sylvia Sorkin Greenfield Award for the best paper published in Medical Physics as deemed by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) at AAPM 50th Annual Meeting in 2008. Then he was awarded the Prostate Cancer Research Fellowship from the U. S Department of Defense in 2013 when he was a postdoc at Stanford University (only two laureates for that year at Stanford).

Dr. Xiang’s group at OU is working on the development of novel imaging techniques for nondestructive testing (NDT), including laser induced photoacoustic tomography (PAT), X-ray-induced acoustic computed tomography (XACT). His work on X-ray-induced acoustic imaging was identified as the HOT TOPIC in The American Association of Physicists in Medicine Annual Meeting in 2013. He was also awarded the Research Prize from Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) at 101ST Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting in Chicago in 2015. Dr. Xiang’s research on photoacoustic nanoscopy was awarded a travel scholarship by SPIE-The International Society for Optics and Photonics in 2016. In this year, he is the only recipient for he Nancy L. Mergler Faculty Mentor Award from the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Xiang is a member of the OSA, SPIE, RSNA, AACR, and AAPM, and has served as an associate editor of Medical Physics journal and served as a Peer Reviewer for FY 2015 Accelerator Stewardship program in the U. S. Department of Energy.
