Abstract

Robotic manipulators are widely used in manufacturing processes for their high accuracy and repeatability. It is challenging to make use of the robotic manipulators to accomplish sophisticated tasks in service and repair industries. In this talk, three new developments on robotic polishing for uneven surface are discussed: macro-mini system, uneven surface polishing planning, and electrochemical mechanical polishing. These new techniques are demonstrated using experiments with expected results.t.

Biography

Danwei Wang received his Ph.D and MSE degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1989 and 1985, respectively. He received his B.E degree from the South China University of Technology, China in 1982. Since 1989, he has been with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Currently, he is a professor and Director, ST Engineering – NTU Corporate Laboratory and deputy director of the Robotics Research Center, NTU. He also served as Head of Division of Control and Instrumentation, School of EEE from 2005 to 2011 and director, EQUISITUS, Centre for System Intelligence and Efficiency from 2011 to 2016. He has served as general chairman, technical chairman and various positions in international conferences, such as International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (CARCVs), IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) and IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). He has served or is serving as an associate editor of Conference Editorial Board, IEEE Control Systems Society, an associate editor of the International Journal of Humanoid Robotics, and an active member of IEEE Singapore Robotics and Automation Chapter. He was a recipient of Alexander von Humboldt fellowship, Germany. His research interests include robotics, control theory and applications. He has published 4 books and more than over 350 technical articles in the areas of robotics, control theories and applications, as well as fault diagnosis and prognosis of complex engineering systems.
